Stupidity Art is Best
 

The best art is stupidity art. Smart art is not only pretentious but you can’t figure out what it is half the time. Some people say that’s great. “Art should make you think.” If I want to think I’ll do a crossword puzzle.

Stan Burriss, a fellow editorial committee member at Real Change, writes poems I can’t understand which are very popular with our readers. I once caught him writing a poem that made sense to me. I told him, “Stan this is wonderful, you’ve finally written a poem that I get.” He said, “Hold on a minute, it’s not done yet… “ and while I watched he carefully crossed out a central line in the poem, a key line that was necessary to explain the meaning of the remaining eight lines, and then, said “There, now it’s just right. Now it will make people think.”

So I decided I could do better than that, and I came up with this poem that makes people think nine times as much as Stan’s poem. I call it

Nine Lines to Make You Think*

See what I’m trying to say? My poem is stupider by far than any of Stan’s poems but you know what I’m talking about, don’t you? Nobody gets smart, everybody gets stupid.
