A small amount of Granlund family history. |

These are some writings that I have translated from Norwegian into English along with the original Norwegian text. The Norwegian is mostly the older "Dano-Norsk" from the early 20th century. Some of them deal with the life of my great-grandfather, Lars Johannessen Granlund, a celebrated bear hunter in the township of North Rana, Nordland county, Norway and also depict life in the north of Norway during the 19th century. The poem by my grandfather, Peder Bäng, also speaks of the area's somewhat frustrating history and his impressions as he prepared to emigrate. The letter from my grandmother Astrid, to her brother Martin, tells of the loneliness felt by an emigrant "alone" on the North Dakota prarie. I'll be posting more from Astrid in a while. |

The files are in the somewhat user friendly "PDF" format. They should be readable using a program such as Adobe's Acrobat Reader or Mac OS X's "Preview". There is a link for downloading "Acrobat Reader" at the bottom of the page. It's a free program. Good luck (lykke til)! |

Down the road a piece (could be a long and winding path!), I'll finish typing up the genealogy records that I have and they will appear here also. |
